Our Infusion Therapies

Infusion

Infusion therapy is the intravenous (IV) delivery of medication or fluids. It’s often used to treat chronic illnesses, nutritional deficiencies, or acute medical conditions that require prompt and efficient treatment.

Infusion therapy may include:

  • Antibiotics for severe infections

  • Hydration and electrolyte replacement
  • Iron therapy

  • Blood transfusions

At Oak Valley Hospital, your health and well-being are our priority. We take a personalized approach to electrolyte therapy, working closely with your care team to monitor your levels and adjust treatment as needed.

Blood and Blood Product Transfusions

We provide comprehensive blood and blood product transfusion services with a strict focus on safety, compatibility, and clinical excellence. From whole blood to plasma and platelets, our protocols follow evidence-based best practices to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Why Are Transfusions Needed?

Blood and blood product transfusions are used to:

  • Restore blood volume after major blood loss

  • Improve oxygen-carrying capacity in anemic patients

  • Support patients undergoing major surgeries or cancer treatments

  • Treat clotting disorders or bleeding complications

  • Manage chronic conditions such as thalassemia or sickle cell disease

Antibiotic Therapy

When serious infections require more than oral antibiotics, IV (intravenous) antibiotic therapy offers fast and reliable treatment. At Oak Valley Hospital, our Antibiotic Therapy Infusion Services are designed to deliver powerful medications directly into the bloodstream—ensuring optimal effectiveness for conditions that require stronger or longer-term care.

What Is Antibiotic Infusion Therapy?

Antibiotic infusion therapy involves administering antibiotics through an IV to treat infections that are too severe or complex for oral medications. This allows the medicine to bypass the digestive system and enter the bloodstream directly, resulting in quicker absorption and more precise dosing.

It is typically prescribed for:

  • Severe skin and soft tissue infections

  • Bone and joint infections (e.g., osteomyelitis)

  • Pneumonia or other serious respiratory infections

  • Sepsis or bloodstream infections

  • Complicated urinary tract infections

  • Post-surgical infections

  • Infections in patients with weakened immune systems

Electrolyte Therapy

Electrolytes are essential minerals that help your body function properly—supporting muscle activity, nerve function, hydration, and maintaining the right pH levels. When these levels become imbalanced due to illness, dehydration, or medical treatment, electrolyte replacement therapy may be necessary.

Why Is Electrolyte Replacement Needed?

Electrolyte imbalances can result from:

  • Severe dehydration (due to vomiting, diarrhea, or heat)

  • Kidney disease or dialysis

  • Chronic illnesses or infections

  • Chemotherapy or other intensive treatments

  • Post-operative recovery

  • Certain medications (e.g., diuretics or blood pressure drugs)

Symptoms of an imbalance can include:

  • Muscle cramps or weakness

  • Irregular heartbeat

  • Fatigue

  • Confusion or dizziness

  • Nausea

When oral hydration or supplements aren’t enough—or when fast correction is needed—IV therapy provides a direct and effective solution.

Iron Therapy

Iron infusion therapy is a type of infusion treatment used to deliver iron directly into the bloodstream through an IV. It’s typically prescribed when oral iron supplements are ineffective, not tolerated, or when iron levels need to be replenished more quickly.
