A patient financial counselor helps patients understand and navigate the financial aspects of their healthcare, acting as a liaison between patients, insurance companies, and providers to manage medical bills, secure payment plans, and identify eligibility for financial assistance programs. Key duties include educating patients on insurance benefits, collecting payments, setting up payment arrangements, processing financial assistance applications, and communicating with patients via phone and in person to resolve account inquiries and promote positive financial experience.
This position is dedicated to customer support and financial counseling activities with the patient providing excellent service related to identifying and collecting prior to service, cost for care, prior balances and providing financial options, support and guidance to patients/ families/ representatives as well as OVHD agencies for hospital accounts. The role provides advanced communication and collection on financially risky scheduled patients. The role possesses strong understanding of medical service coverage and associated 3rd party, governmental and internal policies and options to best serve the patient for patient services provided in the hospital setting including appropriate collection, service support practices that aligns with price transparency, consumerism, up to date industry regulations, OVHD requirements for advance notice and collection of elective services. This role is a patient /family/ customer facing resource responsible for creating exceptional patient experience by providing easy, convenient and personalized service designed to fully resolve and financially clear patients for service. The person will remain current with service, policies, and options to best serve the patients of OVHD.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
- High school graduate
- 2 Year College Degree or equivalent
- Minimum of (4) years of experience or healthcare related field.
- Minimum of (1) year of customer service, collection agency, or sales experience.
- Experience with medical billing software.
- Knowledge of managed care and California state insurance requirements, highly preferred
- Investigative/analytical/research skills to identify and communicate financial options for patients.
- Must be diplomatic and have the ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner.
- Must have the ability to work with and maintain other office machines.
- Must possess good written and verbal communications skills.
- Must be able to work independently, self-motivated, demonstrate the ability to work with little supervision in a fast-paced environment and meet required deadlines.
- Able to perform basic mathematical calculations.
- Assists in other areas of the department when needed.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
Salary: $22.00 per hour
